Mad Dog is the poker nickname for Rob Nucatola.

Way back in college, the preferred beverage to celebrate any sporting event or to inebriate in order to participate in any sporing event (and let's use the term "sporting event" loosely here) was Mad Dog 20/20. Rob and his college friends would go so far as to funnel the sinister chemical beverage - even mixing multiple flavours of it together at times (it always turns brown when mixed, by the way).
Eventually, they just started calling their teams Team Mad Dog.
All of the players got Dog names (Paw Dog, Spike Dog, Mighty Dog, etc.). Since Rob was usually the ring leader or captain of said squad, he became know as Mad Dog.
That name followed him to the table.
